Noun Abbreviated Form The exchange of text messages and computer files over a communications network, such as a local area network or the Internet.
- [MSTP 4.6] Always hyphenate. Use 'e-mail message' or 'message' to refer to an individual piece of e-mail. Do not use e-mail as a synonym for message. Use e-mail to refer generically to an electronic mail program or to refer collectively to e-mail messages. Once you have established the context of electronic mail, it is all right to use mail instead of e-mail.Use E-mail at the beginning of a sentence and in headings with sentence-style capitalization. In headings with initial capital letters, use E-Mail.
