Verb Full Form For a computer system, to be in an inactive state, but not shut off. When the computer is switched back on, the desktop is restored exactly as it was.
- We’re intentionally abstracting the difference between Standby and Hibernate, and just calling these “sleep” in the top level UI, in an attempt to simplify power management for most users. Underneath, Windows will just “do the right thing”. Advanced users that know the difference can still find and choose the specific standby and hibernate states.
