Noun Full Form A small piece of code that can be transported over the Internet and executed on the recipient's machine. The term is especially used to refer to such programs as they are embedded in line as objects in HTML documents on the World Wide Web.

[MSTP 4.6] In current usage, applet refers to an HTML-based program that a browser downloads temporarily to a user's hard disk. Applet is most often associated with Java, but it has also been used to refer to any small program.
