Noun Abbreviated Form A Web-oriented technology developed by Microsoft that is designed to enable server-side scripting.
 
ASP files contain Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) tags, text, and script commands. ASPs can call Microsoft ActiveX components to perform tasks, such as connecting to a database, performing a business calculation, or creating a printer Web page.
